Jan M. Kline

Jan M. Kline, 75, of Califon, N.J. died unexpectedly in her sleep at her home on Friday, July 21, 2017.
Born June 18, 1942 to Howard and Helen Montgomery, Jan was raised in Waverly, New York. She worked her way through Geneseo College to earn a B.S. Degree in Education in 1964.  She pursued a rewarding 34-year career teaching elementary school, special education and computer science that took her from New York State to Kentucky, then to Washington State and finally to Plainfield, New Jersey, where she retired in 1998. Hundreds of students and their families will remember Jan as that special teacher who made a difference in their lives.
Making a difference did not end with her retirement.  A Hunterdon County Resident since 1985, Jan has been an active volunteer for the Open Cupboard Food Pantry, Literacy Volunteers, Family Promise and Meals on Wheels.  She brought commitment, purpose and accomplishment to all of these endeavors, and they all gave her enormous personal satisfaction.
In her leisure time, Jan treasured her time with her grandchildren, attending their birthdays, graduations and sporting events.  She also accumulated “frequent user points” at the public library, walked the County Parks with her husband and dog, and chased ancestors through genealogy treks across Germany and Northern Ireland with her husband.  More than anything else, Jan was a devoted wife, mother grandmother, aunt and friend.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Richard (Dick) Kline; son Douglas Kline of Warren, Michigan; daughter Julie Kline Novick, her husband Scott and children Joseph and Kelsey of Forks Twp., Pa.; sister Jo Ann Montgomery of Lemoore, California, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother Charles Montgomery of Fresno, California.
The family will receive visitors between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 24th at the Coughlin Funeral Home (15 Academy Street, Califon, NJ 07830) and a Celebration of Jan’s Life will be held at 12:30P.M. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Lower Valley Presbyterian Church (445 County Road 513, Califon, NJ 07830).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in honor of Jan Kline to the Open Cupboard Food Pantry, P.O. Box 5071, Clinton, NJ 08809.

Here are some special memories shared by family and friends.
Jan was always a positive, sunny presence at the Thrift Shop . She was quick with a "Good morning!" and always asked about the family and about any vacation we had been on. She was a dedicated, hard worker. A small consolation, I'm glad she had the recent opportunity to travel to Europe with her husband- she spoke about it afterwards as the trip of a lifetime- her eyes shone bright when she told us of the people they met, the sites they saw and the food they tried. I'm truly in shock at her passing- Jan was a gem and truly just a good person. I will miss her greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with Dick and the family.

Jan, where do I begin. There are so many wonderful memories that Gary and I shared with you and Dick. It did not matter if it had been 6 months since we had seen each other....or for that matter many years....but we picked up where we had left off as it we had seen each other just yesterday. I will dearly miss sharing our love of books and trading names of different novels, our many past midnight talks we had where we each said "we really should go to bed" but continued talking. The many laughs we had and how we talked about solving world problems or any current crisis that would be happening at that time. I still can't accept that you are will remain in our hearts forever. Oh how we will miss you.
