Bruce Harper

Bruce Harper, age 66, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at his home in Califon, NJ. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 41 years, Beth (Crofut) Harper as well as a tender, committed father and grandfather who treasured being with the girls in his life, his two daughters, and three granddaughters.

Bruce was born in Buckhannon, WV on May 19, 1951 to Esther and Richard Harper. After graduating from high school in Newark, DE, Bruce joined the United States Air Force, Sergeant E-4, and was honorably discharged in December, 1973. He graduated from The University of Massachusetts at Boston, with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1978. Upon graduation, he began a 39 year career in the field of International transportation and logistics management.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Amy Harper Cargill (Peter) and Lauren Lynn (Bryan). Bruce found great joy in being "Pa" to his beloved granddaughters, Maren Cargill (11), Shaelyn Cargill (7) and Lainey Lynn (2).

Bruce shared a special and close relationship with his brother, Richard Harper, sister, Betty Juergens, and brother-in-law George Juergens, all of whom survive him. He is predeceased by his brother, Robert Harper. He is also survived by his much loved niece, Michelle Howard, and nephews, Brock Juergens and Scott Juergens.  He holds a special place in his mother-in-law, Dorothy Crofut's, heart, and in the hearts of the Crofut family.

He will forever be remembered for his gentle nature, sharp wit, intelligence, integrity, and creative use of curse words. He found great joy in spending time outdoors, camping, woodworking and being with family. Bruce had a way of quietly surprising those around him with his diverse pockets of knowledge ranging from history and current events, to thoughtful life advice. Much of this knowledge was gained from his lifelong love of reading.

A private memorial service will be held.
